Miracle Animal Stories
Story from Eleventh Hour Rescue, P.O. Box 218, Rockaway, NJ 07866, 9 7 3 - 6 6 4 - 0 8 6 5 (Eleventh Hour Rescue is a volunteer based, non profit, 501c3 organization that literally saves dogs from death row.)
...a beagle mix was put into a gas chamber and survived.
It didn't happen 50 years ago, it happened this month and it happened in Alabama and it happened to Daniel. On Oct. 3, 2011 18 dogs were put into a gas chamber.. When animal control opened the door all of them were dead... except one. A little 20 lb beagle mix walked out of the door with his tail wagging.
Daniel has gone from gas chamber survivor to celebrity dog in a week. His story has circled the globe and has been in newspapers and on TV and radio shows nationwide.
He is happy and in a foster home where he has 2 other dogs that he loves to play with. For all his celebrity status Daniel is just a typical dog...He has stolen pajamas, swiped sandwiches and chewed something inappropriate from time to time. He also has an innocence that is endearing and a joy
that is contagious. He has hundreds of applications from people wanting to adopt him and with so much interest we will be able to find a perfect situation for him.

"When Eleventh Hour offered to take Daniel we felt that he was spared for a reason and we dared to dream that his story would help homeless animals everywhere be treated more humanely. We also dared to dream that a caring and responsive public would adopt another one of our rescued dogs or perhaps volunteer to help us or their local shelter/rescue. Earlier this week Senator Dinniman of Pa. introduced a bill he dubbed Daniel's law to ban gassing in the state of Pa. Thank you Senator for helping to make our dreams come true.
I pray that in our lifetime we as a nation of compassionate and caring human beings will find a way to not only ban the use of gas chambers as a method of euthanasia but also find a more enlightened approach to managing our companion animal over population problem. It is criminal that wonderful, loving animals just like Daniel are killed every day in this country. If we refuse to use euthanasia as a tool to manage our pet problem then we will be forced to find a different and hopefully more humane way to deal with this problem."

Random act of kindness forum
Do you know someone who regularly performs a random act of kindness as part of their nature? If so, let Scruffy know...............if every person in the world performed just one random act of kindness each day just think how quickly it would spread and make the world a friendlier place. Just picking up a piece of trash (that does not belong to you) can make your surroundings more pleasant and a cleaner place. Helping a person or animal in distress can lift your spirits and outlook on life for days! Once during a walk Scruffy came upon a rabbit stuck in a chain link fence. Surprisingly he seemed concerned over the rabbit's fate. While Scruffy supervised I started working on trying to free the rabbit which turned out to be a real challenge. While struggling a elderly stranger passing by stopped to help. The stranger did not speak English but knew what needed to be done to free the rabbit. After unwrapping many links to get to the spot the rabbit was trapped we were able to spread the wire wide enough for the rabbit to run free. After watching the happy rabbit run off the stranger turned to me and Scruffy with a big smile on his face raising his hand to give me the "high five" sign slapping my hand as I returned the gesture. The stranger then walked away with a noticeable bounce in his step and big smile on his face saying "happy rabbit, you, me, free, good" with a heavy accent.
